Jason Kander (D)
Jason Kander is a 35 year-old Democrat who is Missouri’s Secretary of State. He is also a former Army Captain who served in Afghanistan and prides himself on his duty has definitely used this to his advantage during the race. During his time as the Secretary of State of Missouri starting in 2012, Kander has cut his own budget by $1 million while, simultaneously, creating the most services that the office has provided ever. Kander has tackled several issues from Missouri’s campaign finance laws to fighting Wall Street firms that helped cause the financial crisis in 2008.
Roy Blunt (R)
Roy Blunt is a republican representative who has become a mainstay in both Missouri and country-wide politics. Starting in after working for 11 years as a county clerk and chief election officer Roy Blunt became secretary of state in 1985 and held that position until 1993. During this stretch he was a prominent candidate for Governor of Missouri. Then after 4 years as president of Southwest Baptist University, he became a member of the house of representatives in 1997 and held this position until 2011. During this time Roy Blunt became Majority Whip from 2003-2007, the earliest of any republican representative. He also was Majority leader in 2005-2006 and minority whip from 2007-2009. In 2010, Roy Blunt won the Missouri senate race and has been a well-liked republican representative during his term.
