Fundraising has been a premium in this senate race, especially in recent weeks because of Missouri’s importance in determining which party will hold the Senate. Once thought to be a red guarantee to re elect Roy Blunt, Missouri has drifted into a battleground between the two candidates. This along with the tightening of other states has given both parties and lots of PACs to toss globs of money into this race. Overall, the two candidates have raised around a combined $26 million (Roy Blunt raising $15 million and Kander raising $11 million). Specifically in Roy Blunt’s favor NRA’s superPAC has been a major contributor to Roy Blunt helping to attack Jason Kander through ads. In addition, major contributors to the National Republican Senatorial Committee include beer giant Anheuser-Busch, InBev and the Show-Me Institute. For Kander top donors to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee include Soros Fund Management, the firm founded by liberal billionaire George Soros, and NewsWeb Corp. In addition, he has support from The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, a powerful union representing public sector workers, has spent $1.8 million and End Citizens United, a PAC that says it’s devoted to reforming federal campaign finance laws, both intent on attacking Roy Blunt and aggressively raising money. This blind money has let to aggressive fundraising and a national focus on a race that could shift the entire senatorial finish.
