What are the major issues involved in this race?
One of the most important issues that this race has covered so far is the economy. Both of the big party candidates stand closely by their party’s stances on this issue. The Republican Party nominee, Roy Blunt, advocates for reducing taxes, promoting policies in favor of small businesses, and curtailing regulations–especially environmental and climate-related. Kander, the Democratic Party nominee, proposes reducing taxes on the middle class, increasing the minimum wage, and eliminating the gender wage gap.
Another huge issue in this race has been the topic of gun ownership. Blunt is a huge advocate for gun-rights and the legitimacy of the 2nd Amendment. Kander, on the other hand, supports an increase in background checks, but also emphasizes his experience in the military in one of his television ads. Of course, the NRA has had a huge involvement in Blunt’s campaign by spending $1.5 million on campaign ads. In addition, the NRA Institute for Legislative Action, the lobbying arm of the NRA, has spent $250,000 for campaign ads in opposition of Kander.
