Missouri is and has been for the past decades a
predominantly red state in presidential races;
however, the senate race is more complicated. In
2010, Roy Blunt won the senate race as a republican
nominee, next in 2012, there was a difference,
democrat McCaskill won the senate race. The
main influence between these two races was the
time which they fell. In 2010 it was a gap year
between presidential elections and lesser voter
turnout elected a republican nominee. However, in 2012 with greater awareness because of the presidential election, as well as a greater african-american turnout, the democratic nominee was elected. The pattern is with greater voter turnout and more awareness about nominees, democratic representatives have been elected, but lesser turnout and during off years republican representatives have been elected. This is lately, but as a whole, the greater presence as a “red” state, Missouri is prone to lean republican as a trend.
